Terminal
NOTICE: I recommend playing this game in full screen mode as the code that keeps the terminal focused on the bottom most line also affects the web page.
Made for the Toy Box Game Jam 2025. Terminal is an idea I have had for a very long time. I made most of the terminal code a few months ago, but decided this game jam was the perfect time to dust it off, improve it, and try it out as a prototype. It was especially appropriate given the ARG the game jam started off with. Overall, I had a lot of fun fleshing out everything, even if the concept is a little esoteric.
The terminal code itself is a few months old, but the majority of the puzzle work (especially one part towards the end) were all done during the game jam. I have been very busy with other projects, but I might come back to fix any major bugs or make some UI improvements.
Update:
1. Terminal should automatically scroll down to the newest line after typing a command. You can still scroll up and down with the mouse wheel.
2. I improved the text display with the cat command (I was writing individual lines, and now it is all displayed in one TextEdit). I also cleaned up the ls -l display a small amount (although it could still be improved. Lastly, I removed the context menu you could get when you right-clicked as I thought it looked out of place.
3. I updated the game further with a CRT shader which can be disabled at the start in the new settings menu (along with all sounds). I also improved the main terminal code a bit and added my profile picture to the splash screen.
4. Cleaned up the code a bit and fixed an issue which prevented the game from compiling in release mode.
5. Fixed up some issues with the nano program.
